Year 7 took part in an ‘Invictus Challenge’, a poetry recital exercise set by Mrs Brady in their English lesson. With a focus on oracy, Mrs Brady opened the Y7 Identity Poetry Unit with Henley’s Invictus and asked the girls to study, commit to memory as much of the poem as possible and then recite the work to their peers.
We intend that all girls understand the power of language – the power of the voice and, placing the reading of ambitious and challenging texts at the heart of every lesson, we powerfully position the girls as students who not only explore what it means to be human through the study of literature, but who are able to articulate this understanding with clarity and confidence.
