Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition

Co-curricular Trip

Last Thursday through to Saturday, several girls in Year 10 completed their Silver DofE Expedition in Snowdonia. They started in Trefriw where the girls navigated through the woods to enjoy lunch beside Lyn Geiryonyd. After a stop off, they then walked over the hills and down to Capel Curig to camp for the night.

The next day, in cooler weather, they walked south to Dolwyddelan, then back into the hills to traverse the moorland westwards before the final steep descent to the campsite at Lyn Gwynant. The second day proved to be a long day with over 9 miles covered.

It rained all night, however, in morning sunshine at 8am they made fast progress along Llyn Gwynant and beside the Glaslyn river, 5 miles south to Beddgelert.

They arrived at Beddgelert, tired, wet but exhilarated with their achievement and there was just time to debrief over milk shakes and ice cream before getting into the buses to return to Alderley Edge.

A huge well done to all the girls. It is expeditions like these that allows the girls to draw on every single one of our Learner Profile attributes including resilience, collaboration, responsibility, resourcefulness, communication, reflection and creativity. An extremely worthwhile adventure not only for Duke of Edinburgh but for life skills and proving to yourself just what you are capable of.
