Lest We Forget

Today, the school joined together to take part in memorial assemblies. The assem-blies focused on the significant role women played in the war. This is often forgotten and so it is important that we share these women’s’ stories of strength and courage with the girls.

We learned how our school played a part in the war and the White Building was in fact a hospital, then called The Brookdale Military Hospital. You can see in the photograph the entrance to our building which is unchanged today.

The Commandant of the hospital was Mrs Emily Hutton who ran the hospital for four years. She was awarded the OBE in 1919 for her work and the Wilmslow Express reported the following:

The Brookdale Hospital ranks very high among the Red Cross Hospitals throughout the land for efficient work and for the kindly care and skilful treatment according to the patients, and there is no question that this is very largely due to the tact, energy and judgement which have been dis-played by Mrs Hutton ever since the opening in November 1914.

Our Senior Choir sang Flanders Fields, which was absolutely beautiful and Mr Marshall played the last post followed by a two-minute silence.
