Languages Sixth Form

In September, Mrs Coltman launched the Language Leader Award. The principal benefits of the Language Leader Award programme is to help pupils learn to lead, using language teaching as the medium. Throughout the year-long programme they develop leadership skills, growing in confidence and enhancing their future careers.

The Language Leaders range from Year 7 to 13 and have representatives from every year group. They  meet every Friday at lunch time to discuss new activities, plan lessons for primary schools or just think about how we can improve the awareness of foreign language learning in the AESG community.

So far, the Language Leaders have supported at Open Evening/Day, taught in our Junior School and also at Wilmslow Prep, Nether Alderley, Alderley Edge Community Primary School, Greenbank Prep School and Peover Superior Primary School. The girls will be visiting each primary school three times in the summer term, teaching the whole school a different language during every visit. Often the girls have the opportunity to teach their home language which has been extremely rewarding for them.

The Language Leaders plan their lessons, create resources and then check them with me. After their visits we reflect on what went well and what could be improved. They have been amazed to realise how much work and effort goes into planning a lesson and it has created an awareness of the teaching profession!

The girls have used their involvement in the Language Leader Award to update their Unifrog, as they recognise all the valuable skills, they are developing which will be useful for future career opportunities.

The languages we teach are:

Spanish

French

German

Italian

Greek

Swedish

Dutch,

Arabic,

Urdu

Farsi, Japanese, and Cantonese!
