Sixth Form Guest Speaker

Here at AESG we provide the pupils with a program of inspirational speakers to expand the girls’ horizons intellectually and inspire them with their future career choices.

Recently, we invited Pathologist, Dr Taylor into school to talk to the girls about the work of a Mi-crobiologist, the skills required for when they are applying, different roles within microbiology, the importance of laboratory work and how different viruses and diseases develop.

Dr Taylor also provided the students with scenarios. This included providing them with a patient’s vitals and then asking the class what they would do next.

Dr Taylor’s career includes specialist medical training in Microbiology and Virology and an MSc in Molecular Microbiology after which she was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.

Dr Taylor was a Consultant Medical Micro-biologist and Infection Prevention Doctor at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport from 1998 to 2017 and continued in these roles at Wythenshawe Hospital and Manchester NHS Foundation Trust from 2017 to 2021, when she retired.

The girls found the talk fascinating and it triggered lots of debate and questioning.
